Direct from EBC, at 5,300m ! During the last days, we left Periche to go to the Lobuche base camp. This beautiful 6,000m mountain will be part of our acclimatization process. For now, we went to base camp, then high camp, then back to base camp.
Since april 8, we are sleeping in tents (and will be for the next month and a half). The temperature ranges from -5 to -15 for now. It’s frisket, but not yet Cold (with capital ‘C’).
We appreciated the views from Lobuche, then we trained with the less dense air. We went to 5,100m, then down. This is how we acclimatize. We go up, then down. Then up again, then down again. Gradually, the body produces more and more red cells and makes it possible to be functional. To give an example, a person being teleported directly from sea level to 5,000m would faint and probably die if not evacuated rapidly. With the practice we had, I am currently writing this blogpost from 5,300m and feeling great. I am of course out of breath as soon as I walk or tie my shoes, but everything is going well and I am continuing my acclimatization. Climbing a mountain is a long process. Especially Everest !
The photo with a yack needs an explanation. I had seen when I was young an add from the company The North Face with expedition bags tied to a yack back. I had promissed myself that one day, it would be my pack on the back of one of these furry beasts. My bag is the red one on the back of the yack on the right. Check !
We then continued towards our main objective : mount Everest. We went to EBC. A big day of walking was waiting for us, but we were rewarded with amazing views and great feelings.
We arrived in EBC and got installed in our new house. I will spend more than a month here so I have to make it my home. In an upcoming blogpost, I will give a visit of my new living place. We are very well organised, especially for being on rock, ice and snow at more than 5,000m ! We even have internet !
In the coming days, we will do some technical practice and we will go to the summit of Lobuche. Practicing on a 6,000m mountain. Not bad !
Love you all from EBC !
